13 innovations, 3 awards – the expo PetroTrans Innovation Award 2012

The ceremony to present the Innovation Award is an established element of the trade fair. This year, there were once again a number of outstanding innovations, which were launched at the fair, vying for the Innovation Award 2012. The visitors were able to cast their votes for their favourite to win the Visitors Award, and an independent jury selected two further companies to receive the sought-after award.
The announcement of the winners and the Innovation Awards Show formed the solemn final act of the trade fair on Saturday, 29 September 2012.

The Jury

Hans-Henning Manz (53) is Editor-in-Chief and publisher of the German energy magazine 'Brennstoffspiegel und Mineralölrundschau' and has 19 years of experience in the industry.

In 1993, after studying German and History and holding a number of posts, including a three-year stint working for a member of the German parliament, he joined the management of the Association of Saxon Fuel and Petroleum Traders (Sächsischer Brennstoff- und Mineralölhandelsverband). In this position he became intimately acquainted with this industry and its wide-ranging business fields. In 2001, he moved to take the top job at Ceto-Verlag.
This is where he developed the trade journal's scope to cover the wide range of topics it now boasts, as well as transforming the publisher into a comprehensive media service provider for the fuel and petroleum trade. In addition to print and online media, the publisher also issues a range of specialist publications and works as an agency for the industry.

Since 2004, he has been a member of the exhibitor advisory board for the PetroTrans trade fair for logistics, transport and handling in the petroleum industry.

Uwe Heins (56) Uwe Heins is Editor-in-Chief of a number of trade journals, including "gefährliche ladung" (gela – "dangerous cargo") and head of the event division of the Storck publishing house in Hamburg.

After training as a wholesale and export specialist, periods of work in the overseas section of ADAC and the export division of Phoenix Gummiwerke AG, 1983 saw him became editor at Storck Verlag, and in 1990, Editor-in-Chief. He then turned what was a trade journal almost exclusively focused on shipping into a hazardous goods magazine for all modes of transport.

His "pet subjects" include tank technology, container cleaning as well as developing regulations for hazardous goods. He was the driving force behind various Internet 2.0 projects, e.g. www.fehler-forum.de and www.gefahrgut-foren.de.

He also occupies the following honorary positions:

  • Advisory Board Member of the BFSV – the Institute for Consulting, Research, System Planning, and Packaging Development and Testing, at the University for Applied Sciences (HAW) in Hamburg
  • Member of the jury awarding the annual German hazardous goods prize, as a representative of the gela editorial board
  • Member of the exhibitor advisory board for the PetroTrans fair, a trade fair for logistics, transport and handling in the petroleum industry

Frank-Georg Stephan, born on 4.3.1962 in Elbingerode/Harz, Germany, works as a qualified engineer specializing in construction technology. As head of the division for engineering/technical protection, he began to focus on the transport of hazardous goods in the second half of the eighties. Following the accession of the new federal states to the FRG, he was responsible for tailoring the training for vehicle drivers to ADR requirements for the TÜV–Akademie Ostdeutschland (East German academy of the Technical Inspection Agency or TÜV).

When employed by TÜV – Thüringen Fahrzeug GmbH, he was department head for hazardous goods management before switching some years ago to work as a freelance expert consultant.

He is editor of the magazine "Gefahrgutprofi" ("Hazardous Goods Professional") and author of the text book "Der Gefahrguttransport in Tanks" ("Transport of Dangerous Goods in Tanks"). As a member of the UNITI logistics committee, he represents the interests of the fuel trade in the international specialised bodies for the transport of hazardous goods, particularly at the joint meeting of ADR/RID/ADN and in the WP.15 working party at UNECE.
